Bogdan Mureșanu \n\n\n\nSunday\, November 16\, 7:00 PM \n\n\n\nIt’s December 20\, 1989. Romania is boiling but no one talks about it. Life seems to go on as usual: censored theatre plays\, demolished houses\, proletarians gathered for a huge demonstration\, students’ artistic moments mocking communism at the same time with New Year’s glorifying shows for Nicolae Ceaușescu. But in the dis-comfort of their unheated homes\, people still struggle with the world’s ancient problems like the father-son difference of opinions\, sweet nostalgia after an ex-lover or the hate towards the mother-in-law. And above all – The Secret Police is watching with vigilance. Six apparently parallel life stories meet along in some invisible points of this tragicomedy\, and at a boom of a firecracker they all drive to a common resolution: the end of a world\, the fall of the communist regime in Romania. \n\n\n\nDirector Bogdan Mureșanu \n\n\n\nRomanian award-winning writer Bogdan Mureșanu has shifted from literature and advertising to cinema with equal success\, both as a director and as a script writer. Since his debut in 2008 with the script for the short film THE HUMAN TORCH\, his work covers animations\, documentaries\, fiction films and TV series. Member of the European Film Academy\, Bogdan was the screenwriter of SANDALS – an international awarded short animation – and the director and screenwriter of THE CHRISTMAS GIFT\, shortlisted for the American Academy Awards (Oscars) in 2020\, a short film with 200 festival selections and 72 awards (including the Grand Prix at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival). Bogdan’s lates film is THE MAGICIAN\, an animation short film\, world premiered in the competition of the 2025 Annecy International Animation Film Festival. \n\n\n\nAwards and nominations: Horizons Award for Best Film & FIPRESCI Prize – Venice Film Festival; European Discovery 2024 – Prix FIPRESCI nomination (European Film Awards); Golden Pyramid for Best Film – Cairo International Film Festival; Silver Peacock for Best Director – Goa International Film Festival; New Voices New Visions Award – Palm Springs International Film Festival; Grand Prix & FIPRESCI Prize – Luxembourg City Film Festival; Best Fiction Film – Crossing Europe Film Festival Linz.
