Embassy of Romania to the United States of America

Romania and the United States share a long-standing friendship dating back to 1880 when on June 14 the two countries established diplomatic relations at the level of diplomatic agency and two months later they were elevated at the level of legation. On June 1, 1964 the diplomatic relations between the two nations were elevated to the level of embassy.

An important landmark of the bilateral relations is the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States. Defined today as one of the fundamental pillars of Romania’s foreign policy, the Strategic Partnership remains a key milestone on Romania’s Euro-Atlantic pathway for the past 25 years. Launched in Bucharest in 1997, in the presence of U.S. President Bill Clinton, the Strategic Partnership emerged as a defining element in the process of reform in the military, economic, political and administrative spheres, contributing decisively to Romania’s evolution in all its dimensions.
