After years of estrangement, Lina, a Moldovan journalist, receives a video message from her father, a migrant worker in Italy, showing bruises on his arms. Equipping him with a hidden camera, she embarks on a parallel journey — uncovering a cycle of domestic violence that has haunted her family for generations. Filmed across Italy, Moldova, and Romania, Tata is a raw and deeply human portrait of a family struggling against toxic masculinity. It tells the story of a daughter’s emotional quest to break the cycle — for herself, for her children, and even for the man who hurt her.

Directors Lina Vdovîi & Radu Ciorniciuc

Lina Vdovîi, an award-winning journalist from Moldova, is best known as the screenwriter of the documentary Acasă, My Home (2020). She began her filmmaking career producing news and documentaries for ZDF. Radu Ciorniciuc is a Romanian filmmaker and investigative journalist whose debut Acasă, My Home won the Best Cinematography Award at Sundance 2020 and was nominated for a European Film Award.
